Abstract

This study aims to describe the metacognitive activity of class X students in solving the problem of generalizing patterns that include components of metacognitive awareness, metacognitive evaluation, and metacognitive regulation. This study uses qualitative research methods with a type of descriptive research and data analysis covering four stages, namely collecting data, reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. Sources of data in this study are the results of students' work on the problem of generalizing the pattern given with the chosen subject is 2 students. The results showed that there were differences in activities that students involved in solving problems. S1 involves more metacognitive activities than S2. S1 involves 5 metacognitive awareness activities, 3 metacognitive evaluation activities, and 3 metacognitive regulation activities while S2 involves 3 metacognitive awareness activities, 2 metacognitive evaluation activities, and metacognitive regulation activities. From the results of the theoretical study it can be concluded that metacognitive activities in solving mathematical problems can help students in the problem solving process.
